In 2006, our Associate Director, Carole Macintyre, took us to a new and exciting level of performance. We stepped out of the square and entertained our Annual Show audience with our circus show -“Cirque’appella”.
When our Music Director, Cathy Rainey, returned from leave, it was time to consolidate and knuckle down to the serious business of competition. Under Cathy’s direction we honed our barbershop skills and practised our choreography to be well and truly ready for our performance at the Brisbane 2007 Convention.
During those 9 months of hard work we were privileged to experience some wonderful coaching from Dale Syverson and Charla Esser, two members of the fabulous International gold medal quartet, Rumors. In February we welcomed renowned coach, Sandy Robinson and in April we went on retreat with Lynnell Diamond. Sandy and Lynnell, both International Faculty members and Certified Judges, shared their expertise and helped with the final tweaking of our barbershop craft in readiness for competition.
Our choice of ballad was the beautiful arrangement of “If I Give My Heart To You.” Apparently our last note was a moment not to be missed!! The energy packed “Red Red Robin” received rousing applause and a standing ovation. All those extra choreo rehearsals were definitely worthwhile.
Each and every one of the 86 members on stage felt truly fortunate to have experienced the months of dedication and love of the barbershop craft from our Director, Cathy Rainey as we proudly accepted our Gold medals. Our perseverance and commitment had been rewarded and we felt thrilled to be able to perform the adapted version of “Cirque’appella” in the Showcase.
There are many to thank - our esteemed Director, Cathy Rainey; our Associate Director, Carole Macintyre; our Assistant Director, Jess Bullen; our Choreography team; the Visual & Performance team and worthy of a special mention, Ann Golder, our fabulous costume designer. Of course we can never forget the partners and families of our members for their support and love throughout the journey.
Our journey is set to continue as we look forward to International Convention in Hawaii in 2008.
